Gap Year Students Do Not Have to Slum It!

Taking a gap year is now extremely common for either school or university leavers. In fact, it is almost expected of students these days. Going away on a gap year provides not only great memories, but also experiences and life changing moments that can help define a person.

When most people think of travel for an extended length of time, they may think that it is better to stay in either hostels or hotels, as these are cheaper and offer the best value for money. However, this is not always the case.

Whilst a hostel will be invariably cheaper, it must be remembered that people normally sleep in dorms of six or even more. For couples, there is the option of taking a double room, but this is normally quite expensive. In fact, it must be noted, that anything that is listed in the Lonely Planet guidebooks is normally pretty bad value for money these days! For couples, or even groups of people travelling around Australia, renting furnished apartments or hotels in Sydney may in fact be a better answer.

They are available on either a short and long term basis, and are surprisingly affordable, especially with four people or more. In fact, quite often, renting an apartment for four or five people may be cheaper than if they all paid individually for a bed in a hostel dorm!

So, if you are thinking of taking a gap year, also remember that there are other interesting options available, and that being a backpacker does not necessarily mean having to slum it!
